In the US, particularly New York and Chicago, I do know that there are Greeters who will show you round the town. Im fairly sure there's nothing in Sydney like the NYC greeters (mores the pity), however this can be of interest. The International Greeter community is fantastic and after years of trying to get off the ground right here in Sydney I'm pleased to say there's now an official Sydney Greeter Organisation. Thanks - have used greeters in NYC and London - fabulous experience - hope you get the organisation up and running = good luck ! Our organisation goals to assist you experience Sydney and encourage understanding of Australian tradition & people.
I will only be in Sydney from the morning of the sixth December and I fly the next morning 12md to Perth. I have used the Large Apple Greeters twice in New York and they have been completely incredible. P.S. One of many greeters I used to chat to at my local Ok-Mart in Sydney was a really clever girl. Apparently it is a play on the fact that Abercrombie & Fitch (parodied as Albatross & Finch) employs topless male greeters at a few of its high-profile shops. She's working alongside veteran greeters Sydney Sanford and Riley Moses, each 18, who're marking their third Kamloopa Pow Wow.
